Isabeau Salmon

Isabeau Salmon is a professional musician with a special interest in jazz piano, and choir. Married to Owen Salmon, she is a graduate of the Conservatorium at Stellenbosch University. She was awarded a B.Mus (Ed. ) degree. Her principal instrument was piano, but she majored in Didactics of Instrumental and Choral Music, with a focus on Pre-School Music.

Isabeau was a founding member of the internationally famous, and award-winning Tygerberg Children’s Choir, an institution still under the baton of its founder Hennie Loock and which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2012.

An alto, throughout her university career she sang in the Stellenbosch University Choir (under the baton of Professor Johan de Villiers). For many years, Isabeau has been a cornerstone member of the nationally acclaimed chamber choir Palissander, earning several accolades and awards on European concert platforms.
Isabeau is also a keen jazz pianist. She has studied under the South African legends Rickie Annandale, Dougie Finch, and Roland Moses. Isabeau is a ‘graduate’ of Berklee College of Music’s Summer School.

For the past 30 years, Isabeau has been intimately involved in school music, at pre-primary, primary and secondary levels. She has a wealth of experience, with a particular emphasis on the 6 – 13 age category.

She was the Director of Music at St Alban’s College, a leading private school in Pretoria, then at St Peter’s College in Johannesburg. She was then the H.O.D of Music for 15 years at Beaulieu Preparatory School. She has directed countless musical productions, concerts and soirees, and her prep school choirs have garnered awards and standing ovations, year in year out, at festivals, concerts and Eisteddfods. She has presented workshops on didactics in school music, and her wealth of experience has seen numerous Eisteddfod adjudication commissions as well.
